James Fountain was born in Hartlepool in 1979. He was an English teacher and lecturer for 14 years in Glasgow, Vienna, Genoa, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Cambodia before switching to train as a journalist. He is due to graduate from Leeds Trinity University with Gold Standard in all his NCTJ (UK) exams.
