Denise Hruby is an award-winning freelance correspondent based in Cambodia.

Her freelance work has appeared in publications around the globe: The Christian Science Monitor, GlobalPost, The Edge Review, NBC News, IRIN, The Australian, Southeast Asia Globe, Los Angeles Daily News, as well as local newspapers in Cambodia, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. She has also written for travel magazines.

In 2014, Denise won the Asian Environmental Journalism Awards’ “Young Environmental Journalist of the Year” and was a runner-up for the World Media Summit’s Excellence in Journalism award and the Austrian Journalism Award for Children’s Rights.

Denise has held guest lectures on feature writing, investigative journalism and how to handle volatile situations at the Royal University of Phnom Penh and Pannasastra University.

Before becoming a freelance journalist, she worked for The Cambodia Daily, initially as Associate Editor and reporter focusing on features, later as Features Editor.
